Dupatta
A long scarf worn over the shoulders or head, with a salwar suit, a lehenga or a ghagra.
Also: odhni, chunni, chunri, chunari
A dupatta is a length of light cloth, about two to two and a half metres long, that women in north India, Pakistan and Bangladesh wear across the chest or shoulders or over the head. It goes with a salwar kameez or a lehenga. Odhni, chunni and chunri are other names, and chunri often means one tied and dyed in the bandhani style. Dupattas may be plain, printed, embroidered or woven with zari. A dupatta is not a saree, but the pallu of a saree plays much the same part, and some drapes use it in the same way.
