Six-yard saree
The standard saree length, about five and a half metres, enough for the Nivi drape.
Also: six yards, 5.5 metre saree
Most sarees sold today are about five to six metres long, which is where the name six-yard comes from, though the length is often a little under six yards. The width is generally about a metre or a little more. That much cloth lets the wearer wrap once round the waist, make pleats and still have a pallu of a good length. Shops may state the length in metres or yards. Some silks and bridal sarees are a little longer, and some modern sarees are shorter.
