Handloom Mark
A label issued by the Indian government to show that a piece of cloth was woven on a handloom, not on a powerloom.
Also: India Handloom Brand, handloom label
The Handloom Mark is a government label that tells buyers a cloth is handloom woven. It carries the weaver's or the society's details, so the cloth can be traced to its source. A related brand, India Handloom Brand, is given to handloom products that meet quality standards in areas such as design and the dyes used. Neither label says that a saree is silk or cotton. For that there are fibre marks such as the Silk Mark. Buyers can ask for the label, and look for the weaver's society name and a number on it.
