Gota patti
A Rajasthani craft of sewing small shapes of flat metallic ribbon on to cloth as appliqué.
Also: gota, gota work, gota patti work
Gota is a flat ribbon woven with metallic thread, traditionally real zari and now often a polyester and copper blend. In gota patti, pieces of the ribbon are cut, folded and stitched down on to the cloth so that they form flowers, leaves and borders. The edges are tacked under so no raw ends show. The work lies flat and catches the light without a heavy weight, so it is used on georgette and silk sarees, dupattas and lehengas for weddings. Jaipur and Khandela in Rajasthan are known for gota, and it is popular in Rajasthani and Muslim bridal wear.
