Georgette
A light, sheer, slightly crinkled cloth woven from tightly twisted yarns in both warp and weft, in silk or polyester.
Also: georgette saree, silk georgette
Georgette is a crepe cloth. Both the warp and the weft are made from yarn twisted hard, with some twisted one way and some the other, so the cloth has a dry, grainy surface and a slight crinkle. It is sheer, light and falls softly, but is less slippery than chiffon. Georgette is made in silk and in polyester, and the polyester kind is common for embroidered and printed party sarees. The name is said to come from Madame Georgette de la Plante, a French dressmaker. Georgette sarees can be hard to pleat at first, and are often held with a little starch.
