Chanderi is a town in Madhya Pradesh that gives its name to a light, translucent cloth with a soft glow. It is woven in silk, in cotton, or in silk and cotton together, and often has small motifs in zari or silk worked in extra weft, such as small coins, flowers and geometric shapes. The cloth is thin and airy but has a certain body, so sarees drape neatly and are worn in warm weather. Chanderi has a Geographical Indication. The town's weaving is done by many households, and there are also tissue and printed versions of Chanderi cloth.
