Body
The main stretch of the saree between the two borders and before the pallu.
Also: field, ground, main portion
The body, also called the field or ground, is the large middle part of the cloth that lies between the borders. It can be plain, striped, checked, dotted with small buta or woven all over with a pattern. When the saree is worn, most of the body forms the skirt and the pleats. Weavers and sellers use the word to describe a saree quickly: a plain body with a rich border, or a heavily patterned body with a narrow border. The contrast between body, border and pallu is one of the main ways a saree design is judged.
