Bead work
Decoration with beads, pearls and sequins stitched on to cloth, often together with zardozi or aari.
Also: beadwork, moti work
Bead work is the use of small beads, pearls, sequins and tubes of glass or metal as embroidery. They are stitched one at a time, or picked up with a hooked aari needle and set in rows, on silk, georgette and net. It is common on bridal and party sarees, borders and blouses, where it often accompanies zardozi. The weight of the beads is part of the planning, since a heavily beaded pallu will drag at the shoulder, and makers keep the work to the border or the pallu so the fall of the saree is not lost.
