Thread count
The number of warp and weft threads in one square inch of cloth, a measure of how closely the cloth is woven.
Also: EPI and PPI, ends per inch
Thread count adds the warp threads, called ends, and the weft threads, called picks, in one square inch. A cloth of 60 ends and 60 picks has a count of 120. A closer weave is stiffer and more opaque, and a more open one is lighter and more sheer. In sarees, the count is seldom printed. It shows in how the cloth feels and falls. A high count does not by itself mean a better cloth, since the thickness of the yarn matters too, and a fine open voile can be excellent for its purpose.
