Sarong
A tube or wrapped cloth worn round the waist, common in South and Southeast Asia, a distant relative of the saree.
Also: sarung, lungi, longyi
A sarong is a length of cloth, often sewn into a tube, that is wrapped round the waist and tucked or knotted, falling to the ankle. It is worn by men and women in Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and parts of India and Africa. Batik sarongs of Indonesia and Malaysia are well known. Lungi and longyi are related names for the plain or checked versions worn by men in India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Like the saree, the sarong is a cloth that is wrapped rather than cut and sewn.
