Dhoti
A long rectangle of unstitched cloth wrapped round the waist and legs, worn by men and in some drapes by women.
Also: dhothi, panche, veshti, mundu, dhuti
A dhoti is about four and a half metres of cloth, wrapped round the waist and often passed between the legs and tucked at the back, to form a loose trouser. Men wear it across India, with different names and styles. Women in some regions, such as Maharashtra, wear a dhoti-like drape that is a saree in a form close to it. Modern fashion also has a dhoti saree, which is a stitched or draped version. The way the saree is passed between the legs in the kaccha drape is the same idea as in a dhoti.
