Nauvari
The Maharashtrian nine-yard saree and the drape worn with it, with the pleats passed between the legs.
Also: kashta, lugda, nauvari saree
Nauvari means nine in Marathi, for the nine yards of cloth. The cloth is tucked at the waist, the pleats are passed between the legs and tucked at the back, and the end is brought over the shoulder. The result looks like a short dhoti in front and a skirt behind. The Marathi word kashta, meaning back tuck, names this style. It is worn at weddings, festivals such as Gudi Padwa, and in folk dance such as lavani. Paithani and cotton nine-yard sarees are woven for it.
