Leno weave
An open weave where pairs of warp threads twist around each weft thread, giving a light, airy cloth that does not slip.
Also: leno, gauze weave, doup weave
In a leno weave, neighbouring warp threads cross over each other between weft passes, so that each weft thread is locked by a twist. The result is an open, net-like cloth where the threads cannot slide out of place, even though there is plenty of air between them. Leno is used where a very light but stable cloth is needed, and some thin cotton and silk fabrics in India use it, often only in stripes or small areas next to a plain weave. A saree with leno stripes shows open lines running along the cloth.
