Haku patasi is a black wrapped cloth with a red border, worn by Newar women in the Kathmandu valley. The name is Newar: haku means black and patasi is a saree. It is wrapped round the body and tied at the waist and is worn with a blouse and a belt. It is traditionally worn at festivals, weddings and ceremonies, and many Newar women own one. It is a traditional dress of this community and different from the Nepali saree that is more widely worn.
