Also: paneli, panetar saree

Panetar is a Gujarati wedding saree, white or ivory with a red border and, often, small red motifs woven or printed across it. In many Gujarati families it is the saree that the bride wears for part of the wedding rites, and it is often given by her mother's family. It is usually draped in the seedha pallu style. Red stands for marriage and good fortune, and white for purity. Panetar is paired with the gharchola, a red bandhani saree, which is traditionally given by the groom's family. Customs differ between communities, and families keep their own rules.
