Kora
Raw or unbleached cloth, and in silk a crisp, sheer cloth woven with the gum left in the thread.
Also: kora silk, kora organza, kora cloth
Kora is a Hindi word meaning raw, new or unprocessed. For cotton it means plain unbleached cloth straight from the loom. For silk it usually means silk woven with the natural gum left in the yarn, which gives a crisp, slightly rough, sheer cloth. Banarasi kora sarees, often called kora organza, are woven this way and then decorated with zari and extra-weft motifs. Because the gum stays, the cloth is stiff at first and relaxes with wear. A kora saree is not the same as one that has been degummed and made soft.
