Inskirt
The word used in India for a petticoat, the plain skirt worn under a saree.
Also: underskirt, saree underskirt
Inskirt is an Indian English word for the underskirt that goes beneath a saree. It is the same garment as the petticoat. It is a plain tube of cotton or satin, closed with a drawstring at the waist. The saree is tucked into the drawstring, so the inskirt anchors the whole drape. Some people prefer the word petticoat, others say inskirt, and shops use both. Fitted inskirts cut in panels and shaped like a mermaid skirt are sold for slimmer drapes.
