Chador
The upper cloth of the Assamese mekhela chador, draped over the blouse and tucked into the mekhela at the waist.
Also: sador, chadar
In Assam the chador, also written sador, is the upper cloth of the traditional dress. One end is tucked into the mekhela at the waist, and the cloth is then brought up over the bust and over the left shoulder, where it hangs behind. The chador is usually woven as a pair with the mekhela, in the same colour and border, with the main design in its border and end. It is a flat, open cloth, unlike the stitched mekhela. The word is used elsewhere, for example in Persian and Urdu, for different garments.
