Noil
The short fibres left over after combing silk, or another fibre, spun into a rough, dull yarn.
Also: silk noil, noil silk, kora noil
When silk waste is combed to prepare it for spinning, the long fibres go forward and the short ones fall out. These short fibres are the noil. The word is also used for the short fibres left after combing cotton and wool. Noil is spun into yarn that is thicker, nubbier and less lustrous than reeled silk, and the cloth woven from it has a dry, slightly rough feel. It is cheaper than reeled silk but warm, and it is used in matka silk and in some hand-spun silk sarees and stoles.
