Parsi New Year (Navroze)

The Parsi new year in August, when women wear the gara, an embroidered saree with Chinese-influenced motifs.

A swatch drawn for this day, not a photograph.

What is worn for Parsi New Year (Navroze)

Navroze, the new year of the Parsis (Zoroastrians) of India, is kept in August by the Shahenshahi calendar, which does not add a leap day, so the date drifts against the Gregorian year. The household is cleaned and decorated with rangoli of flowers, chalk or rice flour, families pray at the fire temple, and a table with a mirror, flowers, a lamp, sweets and a decorated sofra is laid. Parsi women dress in the gara, a silk saree with hand embroidery, in which birds, flowers, pagodas and other Chinese-influenced designs are worked in fine stitches. Men wear a white dagli or kurta and a cap. The date varies by calendar, and some Parsis keep it in March.

Also part of it, and being written: Parsi gara (The Parsi embroidered saree, with Chinese-inspired motifs.).
