National Day of Bhutan

On 17 December Bhutanese women wear the kira, a wrapped dress pinned at the shoulders, with a rachu scarf and a jacket.

A swatch drawn for this day, not a photograph.

What is worn for National Day of Bhutan

The National Day of Bhutan, 17 December, marks the crowning of the first king, Ugyen Wangchuck, in 1907. It is a public holiday with a ceremony in Thimphu and across the country. All Bhutanese wear the national dress, which is also the rule in offices and schools through a dress code called driglam namzha. Women wear the kira, a rectangle of woven cloth wrapped round the body to the ankle, pinned at the shoulders with brooches called koma and tied at the waist with a woven belt, the kera. Over it goes a short jacket, the tego, and on the shoulder a small scarf, the rachu, for ceremonies. The kira is among the closest relatives of the saree in the Himalayan region, and its cloth may be cotton, wool or silk.

Also part of it, and being written: Kira (The wrapped dress of Bhutanese women.).
